May 15, 2017Both polycarbonate and Trivex lenses have properties which make them an ideal material for lenses where the wearer may require extra durability and protection for activities that they undertake. It’s recommended that such lens materials are used in glasses for sports goggles, sports glasses and certain safety glasses (used in industry). Indeed, they are suitable for practically all glasses frames where added lens safety is a requirement. Polycarbonate and Trivex lenses provide greater impact resistance than lenses made out of other materials. They are made out of softer plastic compounds which makes them less brittle than other lenses and, consequently, able to absorb impacts without cracking, fracturing or shattering. Both types of lenses are provided with a scratch-resistant coating which gives added protection from scrapes and scratches. Another

April 09, 2017If there was ever a celebrity who was well known for wearing glasses, it would have to be Elton John. Born in 1947 and so a long time before alternatives such as laser surgery became available to correct myopia, Elton started wearing glasses from a very early age. Born into a very modest household, in his younger days, he would depend on the national health service for his spectacles. Perhaps it was the lack of fashion spectacles that were available from the service that instilled in him the desire for more flamboyant eyewear. With the debut album Goodbye Yellow Brick Rd., Elton’s path to fame and subsequent riches began as did the start of his huge glasses collection. Nobody really knows exactly how many pairs of glasses Elton has bought and worn over his career, one of the earliest comments that he made about his spectacles collection was in 2002 when

March 07, 2017We often get calls and requests for “John Lennon Style Glasses and Sunglasses”, and although everybody knows what the term means, and certainly John Lennon (and at times Yoko Ono as well) popularized the iconic image of the round style glasses early in his career with the Beatles – the glasses and sunglasses themselves have actually been around for a long time. The origin of the John Lennon style glasses can actually be traced back to the mid 1960’s when they became popular – particularly as sunglasses – in order to mask the outward symptoms of drug use and in particular marijuana consumption which often lead to bloodshot eyes or at other times when opiates were consumed the constriction of the pupil. They became known as “teashade” glasses and were usually given some sort of opaque coatings such as mirror sunglasses or very dark tinted prescription sunglasses.

February 15, 2017Of course, Lady Gaga is known for her musical ability as well as her somewhat individual style sense. This individualism has often been known to her preference for glasses and Lady Gaga sunglasses as well. Since her first set of videos, one of Lady Gaga’s traits has been to mask or divert her image using fashion for her body and a wide range of unique or custom glasses and sunglasses to shield her eyes. Most glasses wearers wear glasses or sunglasses to shield their eyes from harmful rays or bright light – but in another twist of the Lady Gaga lifestyle, she has proclaimed her Gaga Glasses and Sunglasses to be primarily to hide her eyes from public view so that hew fans and others can focus on her work rather than her look. Many of the glasses and sunglasses that Lady Gaga wears are vintage from some of the great fashion houses such as Versace, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford and Dior; possibly the most well known glasses that

January 09, 2017Apple today is one of the strongest brands in the world, of course, built on their products such as the iPhone, iPad and of course where it all began – the MAC computer. Founded by glasses wearers Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, they have focused their lenses on consumer products rather than optical products – but it is never too late and you never know what is going to come out of the Apple Campus at “Infinite Loop” next. Perhaps some fashionable white spectacles with a brand new user interface. The big leap forward for Apple really came in 1984 with their huge investment in the famous “1984” ad that launched the MAC computer in a breakthrough ad first shown during the Superbowl of that year. The theme of the ad was breaking the mould both in terms of product and advertising, with a story driven 1-minute film that ended with text that was displayed and spoken, “On January 24th Apple Computer will introduce Macintosh.
