About the Brand:

Opening their first doors on September 14th, 1837 at 259 Broadway in New York, Tiffany & Co. made their first days sale of a total of $4.98. During the 1830s in New York City, it was a time of dynamic growth and a perfect opportunity for any person with an abundance of imagination. This was proven to be a starting ground for a 25-year-old Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young as they opened their “stationery and fancy goods” store.

Having discovered a newly emerged “American Style” that had departed from Europe which was rooted and full of ceremonial patterns from the Victorian era. As fashionable and elegant ladies paraded Broadway in silks, satins and beribboned bonnets, this inspired the young entrepreneurs, along with the natural world which was later interpreted in patterns of simplicity, harmony and clarity.

In 1867, Tiffany first achieved their international recognition at the 1867 Paris World’s fair. Tiffany & Co. were awarded the grand prize for silver craftsmanship which was the first time that an American design house, had been honoured by a foreign jury. Having had this recognition, Tiffany was the first American company to employ the British silver standard (92% pure). Through the efforts of Mr Tiffany, this standard was then adopted by the U.S. Government later on.

In the following years, Tiffany & Co. were to open their Silver Studio which was the first American school of design were apprentices were encouraged to sketch and observe nature. By 1870, Tiffany & Co. had become America’s premier silversmith and at the turn of the 20thcentury, the company had more than one thousand employees and branches in London, Paris and Geneva.

The legacy that is held still to this day of the Tiffany design is immensely told in the annual Blue Book Collection, which features Tiffany’s and the world’s most spectacular and exclusive jewels. This was initially published in 1845, with the signature Tiffany Blue® colour distinguishing the cover, along with the famous Tiffany Blue Box®. This is a true icon of style, sophistication and elegance which is celebrated by the Hollywood stars of then and now, with the likes of Elizabeth Taylor wearing some of the most glamorous and beautiful pieces of their delicate collections.
