October 15, 2018Varifocal lenses are the modern day solution for dealing with presbyopia for those of us who wear glasses already. They are normally the ideal solution for those who need one power for ‘distance’, like driving and watching TV, and another strength for ‘near’, such as reading and doing close-up work. So what is presbyopia? In short, it’s an age-related condition of the eye where it loses a noticeable amount of elasticity and decreases its ability to focus on nearer objects. It is also known as long-sightedness. The condition can start to manifest itself when we reach our late thirties and into our forties. It’s recognised by us not being able to do close-up work, such as reading and even seeing the computer screen as clearly as we used to do. There are several ways of correcting the condition.

September 02, 2018Picking the ideal glasses for your profession can be tricky, here’s some information that should make the choice a little easier. OFFICE-BASED PROFESSIONALS – Those of us that work in an office have to face many factors that can put a great deal of strain on our eyes.Staring at a computer monitor for extended periods of time can lead to eye strain so it is a good idea to take breaks and rest your eyes as often as you can.On top of this, most glasses now come with the option of adding an ‘anti-reflective’ or AR coating, used to reduce/eliminate glare from the screen and your lenses which can lead to eye strain. Another feature that could prove useful is ‘Blue light control’. Protective lenses with a special coating designed to reflect and minimise high-energy blue light

November 13, 2017Founded in 1991, Pull & Bear started with a clear and precise mission, to become an internationally known brand, with the full intention to dress young people who are interested and engaged with their environment who can relate to one another. Their intention to dress young people was clear, and the young people they sought were people with a casual dress sense, who wanted to diminish any stereotypes against young people and most importantly, wanted them to feel good no matter what they were wearing. This would then mean that Pull & Bear would have to take interest in the latest international trends, from the dance floor to the street, clubs and couches and rework them with their own style in mind to make the pieces comfortable and easy to wear. Pull & Bear will continue to evolve at the same pace as its customer and the trends within young people, and are always looking out for new movements, artistic trends

September 26, 2017We have recently added the Hollywood famous luxury Tom Ford glasses to our range at Spex4Less. The original and bold designs which have become the fashion choice of the rich and famous are down to their creator, Mr Tom Ford. He first made his name in fashion while working at Gucci, and after a long and successful career as the Creative Director with the company he set out to forge his own brand in the fashion industry in 2004…. you can guess what he named it. His fashion line includes women’s and men’s clothes makeups, fragrances and most notably designer glasses and sunglasses. It didn’t take long for the Tom Ford brand to taste success. Tom Ford is now recognised as one of the most luxury brands to own. So much so that Daniel Craig wore them in the latest James Bond films (If you didn’t know, Daniel Craig is local to Hoylake on the Wirral…the

August 15, 2017Of course, the prime consideration when choosing glasses for driving this to pick a frame for your spectacles that is comfortable, fits well and has a good field of vision. The less thick the arms of the glasses are the better, as they will always impede your ability to see to the side to some extent. You should also look for glasses that are robust and can tolerate extremes of temperature as they are likely not to be treated very well in your car. A good choice for a glasses frame that fulfils many of these criteria is one that is made from a strong alloy such as titanium. As well as the obvious purpose for the glasses of correcting vision when driving, they are also commonly used in order to attenuate strong light as prescription sunglasses and to diminish glare that may be generated by road hazards such as light reflecting from the road surface or strong light shining from oncoming traffic.

June 15, 2017We are extremely pleased to announce our newest brand, Oakley, to the designer collection at Spex4less.com. Delve a little deeper into the history of Oakley, the brand itself. Founded in 1975, Jim Jannard began creating; designing and producing handle grips for motocross motorbikes from the back of his car. Jannard later named them ‘The Oakley Grips’. Living life as a university student at the University of California in 1970, Jannard later dropped out and which is when he decided to begin his adventure. Jim Jannard then spent around a year becoming more and more of a motorcyclist enthusiast having travelled around as just a man and his motorcycle and eventually sold his own motorcycle to buy a small car in order to create a business out of the boot. Jannard began selling motorcycle parts to shops that serviced broken motorcycles. When he realised that business was taking off, Jannard created ‘The Oakley Grips’ which

May 15, 2017Both polycarbonate and Trivex lenses have properties which make them an ideal material for lenses where the wearer may require extra durability and protection for activities that they undertake. It’s recommended that such lens materials are used in glasses for sports goggles, sports glasses and certain safety glasses (used in industry). Indeed, they are suitable for practically all glasses frames where added lens safety is a requirement. Polycarbonate and Trivex lenses provide greater impact resistance than lenses made out of other materials. They are made out of softer plastic compounds which makes them less brittle than other lenses and, consequently, able to absorb impacts without cracking, fracturing or shattering. Both types of lenses are provided with a scratch-resistant coating which gives added protection from scrapes and scratches. Another advantage

March 07, 2017We often get calls and requests for “John Lennon Style Glasses and Sunglasses”, and although everybody knows what the term means, and certainly John Lennon (and at times Yoko Ono as well) popularized the iconic image of the round style glasses early in his career with the Beatles – the glasses and sunglasses themselves have actually been around for a long time. The origin of the John Lennon style glasses can actually be traced back to the mid 1960’s when they became popular – particularly as sunglasses – in order to mask the outward symptoms of drug use and in particular marijuana consumption which often lead to bloodshot eyes or at other times when opiates were consumed the constriction of the pupil. They became known as “teashade” glasses and were usually given some sort of opaque coatings such as mirror sunglasses or very dark tinted prescription sunglasses.
