The History of DKNY
After working for a fashion company for the best part of 15 years, Donna Karan took the plunge and invested in herself and her own company. In 1985, Karan debuted her first women's clothing collection. Designed for the working woman at the time, the items were meant to be interchangeable. In 1989 Karan, with inspiration from her teenage daughter, launched a younger more affordable clothing line. DKNY ran alongside her main Donna Karen New York label but with a younger demographic in mind. The range was influenced by her main collection but targeted the fashion sense of a younger more outgoing generation, less focussed on clothing for work and more for leisure. Two years later Karan developed the DKNY Jeans collection and two years later showcased a DKNY collection for men.
Throughout the 90s and 00s, DKNY continued to branch out into more and more areas, releasing many more collections. DKNY Active, DKNY Juniors and DKNY Pure are just a few of their other popular lines. Today, DKNY continues to be one of the most popular high-end brands out there, continuing to branch out and further develop the brand and its collections.
