Distance lenses are crafted for clear long-range vision. Ideal for those with a negative (-) sphere in their prescription, they sharpen far-off objects, making everyday activities such as driving and watching movies more enjoyable.
In some rare cases you may need a reading area in your lens for your particular sport. This may be to read maps or follow a GPS. For this reason we often get asked if we can provide varifocals and the answer to that is unfortunately no. Besides, varifocals will interfere to much with distance peripheral vision which needs to be at its best - especially where any kind of sport is involved.
However, if you must be able to read we can provide a Low-Set Bifocal lens for your insert. This will give you good distance vision with a small reading segment towards the bottom of the lens. This allows for a limited reading area which, in most cases, will get you by without interfering with your distance vision too much.
Lens Index (Thinness)
Please select one
1.5 Lens Index - Standard Plastic CR39: Ideal for a wide range of prescriptions, this standard option is perfect for powers up to ±3.00. Please note, the '1.5' refers to the lens' refractive index, not its thickness in millimeters. This index is suitable for most prescriptions, providing a balanced blend of thickness and clarity. Prescriptions stronger than +3.00 or -3.00 may appear thicker, while those within this range maintain a sleek profile.
1.59 Lens Index: A step above the standard, this lens offers a thinner profile compared to the 1.5 index. The '1.59' indicates the refractive index, not the thickness in millimeters, meaning lenses with this index are slimmer and lighter. Ideal for a range of prescriptions, it strikes a good balance between sleek design and visual clarity, especially for those seeking a slightly thinner lens without moving into the higher index categories.
1.6 Lens Index: A step up in slimness from standard CR39/1.5 lenses, this lens is about 23% thinner, making it a great choice for moderate prescriptions up to +4.00 and down to -4.00. The 1.6 index refers to the lens' refractive capability, not its physical thickness in millimeters. A higher index results in a thinner lens, offering a more streamlined look while maintaining clarity.
1.67 Lens Index: A popular choice for slim lenses, thinner than 1.5 and 1.6 indices. It's about 15% thinner than 1.6 lenses and 25% flatter, making it ideal for prescriptions up to +6.00 and down to -6.00. Note: 1.67 is the refractive index, not the thickness in millimeters; a higher index indicates a slimmer lens.
1.74 Lens Index: Our thinnest lens, ideal for mid to high prescriptions. It's 50% thinner than standard 1.5 lenses and 30% lighter than glass, offering sleek style and lightweight comfort.
Coatings
Please select at least one
This is a scratch-resistant coating applied to all of our lenses, regardless of any other coatings you may order. Most other companies charge for this - Spex4less put the scratch-resistant on your lenses free of charge.
No lenses are absolutely scratch-proof, but this coating will most certainly give your new lenses much more protection compared to ones without this coating applied.
A multi layer coating including a hydrophobic layer helps to prevent lenses from fogging.
