Varifocal Glasses Lenses

There are many different types of varifocal lenses on the market today. We have managed to source a very high quality "standard varifocal" lens which we have been supplying to our customers for many years now with great success.

This Standard lens is also available in the thinner 1.6 option and all coatings are available with the standard Varifocal Options.

We do however get a lot of questions regarding “Premium Varifocals” and other options that we offer.

Premium brand varifocals tend to have slightly wider vision corridor. We use Essilor Varilux Comfort lenses as our primary brand for Premium Varifocal Lenses

We also offer an “Ultra Thin” option (1.67) for the premium lenses, but please note that this option is not available with any lens coating options but comes with Scotchguard Crizal Alize Anti Reflective Coating as standard.

There is a 1.74 lens option which is “premium” for those requiring the thinnest lenses possible

Finally, many “modern style” frames with a shallow lens require a “Short Corridor” varifocal lens. This is available with all coatings and add-ons (such as transitions). In many cases we would need to chat with you either online or by phone if you are considering one of these frames outside our standard offering. A rule of thumb is if the lens depth is <25mm it will require these type of lenses.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q : How do your varifocal lenses compare to the high street offerings ?
A : For the most common offerings on the high street, our “Standard” is equivalent to the mid-range, and our “Premium” is the top-of-the-range.

Q : Do the Premiums really make a difference ? Are they really worth it ?
A: The difference in acuity can be noticeable for Premium lenses. We recommend them if they they are your primary pair of glasses, if they are a back-up pair, it is not really necessary.

Q : How much extra are the “Short Corridor” lenses ?
A : Our standard pricing for short corridor lenses is and extra £65 ON TOP of the “Standard” varifocal lens (£60), but often our pricing depends on the level of prescription. If you have a moderate prescription, we will be happy to quote you for this option, often we can save about half of this premium.

Q : What do you mean by “Short Corridor” exactly ?
A : More detailed explanation is here : www.spex4less.com/ShortCorridor.shtml

Q : Why are the “Short Corridor” lenses so much more ?
A : They are manufactured using a different source lens that “concentrates” the transition across the lens from far to near, as there isn’t the normal depth of lens available for this transition as in standard (deeper) varifocal lenses

Q : Can you only supply varifocal glasses from your Gents/Ladies Varifocal pages?
A : No, we can supply all of our glasses with varifocal lenses, the ones on our main varifocal pages are the most popular, but if you see others, we will be happy to do a manual order and add the varifocal option for you
